From Phenomenal to Mentor: AJ Styles Begins a New Chapter in WWE

If you’ve followed professional wrestling for any amount of time, you already know that AJ Styles is one of the most respected performers of his generation. From his time dominating the independent scene to becoming a major star in WWE, Styles built a reputation as one of the best in-ring talents the business has ever seen.

Now it looks like a new chapter has officially begun.

After effectively stepping away from in-ring competition, Styles recently revealed that he’s signed a new deal with WWE—but this time his role will be happening behind the scenes instead of inside the squared circle.

On the first episode of his new podcast, Phenomenally Retro, Styles shared that part of his new job will involve scouting and helping develop the next generation of WWE talent.

In his own words, he’s already putting in the work.

Styles explained that he’s constantly online checking out different wrestlers and performers, keeping an eye out for people who might have what it takes to level up their careers. If he sees someone with potential, he wants to help them improve and possibly even help open doors for them within WWE’s system.

He also mentioned that if someone looks ready for an opportunity—like potentially earning a WWE ID contract—he hopes he can help make that happen.

Right now, he says the role is still getting started and things are moving a bit slowly, but he expects that to change soon as he begins making calls and connecting with talent across the company.

And it won’t just be independent wrestlers either.

Styles said he’ll also be working with talent from NXT and even members of the main roster. In fact, he mentioned he’ll be heading to Seattle for an upcoming episode of WWE Raw where he plans to spend time talking with talent and seeing how they’re doing.

Sometimes, according to Styles, it’s not even about big changes—it can be as simple as having a conversation.

Maybe someone needs guidance.Maybe someone wants to spend time at the Performance Center sharpening their skills.

Whatever the situation is, Styles wants to be someone who can help.

He even talked about wanting to make sure morale stays strong across the locker room and that the talent feel supported.

And honestly, that sounds like the perfect next role for someone who has spent decades earning respect inside the wrestling world.

For fans, it may be the end of an era seeing AJ Styles step away from the ring—but if his new role helps shape the next generation of WWE stars, his influence on the business might actually grow even bigger.
