Alienware OLED Firmware Alert: Check the Version Before You Flash
Alienware AW2725Q owners spotted what appeared to be a fresh firmware release dated October 20, 2026—but this one needs a closer look before anybody celebrates.
A community report says the newly surfaced package carries the same M2B104 version number and listed improvements as an earlier April release, despite apparently using a different driver ID. Those notes mention improved dark-scene transitions, an HDR Peak 1000 Bright preset and fewer rare HDMI 2.1 VRR tearing cases on Intel graphics.
Here’s the important distinction: the October listing has not been confirmed as a genuinely new firmware revision. It may be a re-post, regional relisting or corrected package rather than an additional feature update.
That matters because firmware is not something to install casually. Dell’s own AW2725Q firmware instructions warn that an update takes roughly 10 minutes and that interrupting it—by powering down or disconnecting the monitor or PC—could damage the display. Dell also advises closing Dell Display Manager and Alienware Command Center first.
The AW2725Q itself is a 27-inch 4K QD-OLED running at up to 240Hz. Dell lists Dolby Vision, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, HDMI 2.1, adaptive-sync support and a Creator Mode for color-sensitive work. That makes accurate HDR behavior relevant to gamers, video editors and creators using one screen for both play and production.
Firmware updates can meaningfully improve expensive gear, but “newly listed” does not always mean “new version.” Check the installed firmware, package number and official notes before touching that update button.
Would you install a re-listed firmware package immediately, or wait for Dell to clarify exactly what changed?
