Planet Zoo 2 Is Here—How Wild Will You Build?

Gamers, today’s new releases are not all about surviving another apocalypse. Sometimes the mission is keeping the penguins happy while stopping your guests from getting lost on the way to the aquarium.

Planet Zoo 2 launches today, October 13, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel expands Frontier Developments’ zoo-management formula with aquariums, aviaries, wildlife reserves, and additional options for designing habitats.

Aquatic and flying animals are the attention-grabbers. The announced roster includes creatures such as hawksbill turtles, blacktip reef sharks, toco toucans, and secretary birds. Staff can use equipment such as airlocks and scuba gear, while visitors can walk through certain aviary enclosures.

But the interesting question is whether the sequel makes managing all that creativity feel better. A beautiful habitat is fun to show on stream, but pathing, staff efficiency, animal welfare, budgets, and guest satisfaction are what turn a design tool into a proper management game.

This feels like a strong community-stream game because chat can help choose animals, name exhibits, and vote on the next expansion. The funny disasters may be just as entertaining as the perfect builds.

I would still avoid treating launch-day promotional features as a review. Performance, controller usability, late-game management, and the quality of the different modes need real playtime before anyone declares this the ultimate zoo simulator.

For now, the pitch is easy to understand: build a zoo that stretches from underwater tunnels to open-air bird habitats, then find out whether you can actually keep the entire operation running.

Would you build the aquarium, aviary, or traditional animal habitats first—and which creature has to be in your zoo?
