Wren Sinclair Fooled NXT—and Walked Away With a Title Opportunity

Okay, NXT. Apparently, the most dangerous move in a battle royal is showing up with a convincing disguise.
On the October 6, 2026 episode of NXT, Wren Sinclair won the NXT Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal while disguised as AAA’s Lady Shani. WWE’s official results confirm the reveal and Sinclair’s victory.
The match brought together 20 women representing NXT, Raw, SmackDown, TNA, Evolve, and AAA. With that many competitors involved, the closing stretch had plenty of room for confusion—and Sinclair made it count.
According to WWE’s recap, Reina Volcan took out her frustration on the wrestler everyone believed was Shani after being eliminated. Later, Kali Armstrong appeared to be the last woman standing. The disguised Sinclair returned, eliminated Armstrong, and revealed who had been behind the mask.
Imagine thinking you’ve survived that entire field, only to find out somebody else still has the final move. That is a rough way to end your night.
My take? This gives NXT an entertaining hook, but the follow-through matters more than the mask. Sinclair now has attention and a championship opportunity. The next step should show what makes her a threat once everybody knows exactly who they’re facing.
There’s also a natural reason for Armstrong to be frustrated. She was right there at the finish. How she responds could keep the fallout interesting beyond the winner’s celebration.
For fans, this is an easy storyline to jump into: one clever escape, one painful elimination, and a contender who suddenly has everybody watching. You don’t need months of backstory to understand why the ending matters.
Now comes the harder part—turning a memorable reveal into a memorable title chase.
Did Wren’s disguise win you over, or were you pulling for Kali Armstrong to finish the job?
