Gears of War: E-Day Is Here—and This Reunion Comes With Trouble

Yes! Marcus and Dom are back together, and their welcome party is coming straight out of the ground.

Gears of War: E-Day launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam, with availability through Game Pass. Xbox’s official launch announcement confirms that the story returns to the opening of the Locust invasion—the disaster that changed Sera forever.

Set 14 years before the original Gears of War, this campaign follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. The action unfolds across three days and nights in the city of Kalona, with survival at the center of the story. Xbox is emphasizing the horror of encountering the Locust as a newly emerging threat.

That gives this reunion an interesting challenge. Familiar characters can get people through the door, but their relationship needs to make those dangerous moments mean something.

My take? The brotherhood is where this game could really connect. Give me a reason to care about who’s beside me when everything falls apart, and suddenly every desperate escape carries more weight.

From a creator perspective, that setup could also make a strong community playthrough. There’s room for reactions, story discussions, and conversations between longtime fans and people meeting these characters for the first time. I’d want to keep early streams clearly labeled for spoilers so everybody can choose how they experience it.

If you’re jumping in, Xbox’s launch guide stresses using cover and avoiding unnecessary exposure. That sounds like a useful reminder for anybody whose first instinct is to sprint directly toward the loudest problem.

The game is available now. Whether it delivers the reunion fans want is the conversation players can finally start having.

Are you loading up E-Day for Marcus and Dom’s story, the multiplayer, or both?
