Resident Evil Requiem: Grace & Leon Get Nearly Equal Spotlight in Dual-Protagonist Campaign

Capcom is shaking up Resident Evil fans with new details on Resident Evil Requiem’s campaign structure revealed after the game’s trailer debuted at The Game Awards 2025. Instead of focusing mainly on a single lead, the game will feature two protagonists — newcomer Grace Ashcroft and legacy hero Leon S. Kennedy — with their playable sections almost equally split throughout the story.

This design means players will switch back and forth between Grace and Leon as the narrative unfolds, similar to the structure used in Resident Evil: Revelations. According to director Kōshi Nakanishi, the balance ensures that both characters get meaningful playtime and story impact.

Two Very Different Play Styles

Capcom is deliberately emphasizing the contrast between the two leads:

  • Grace Ashcroft delivers classic Resident Evil survival horror, with tension, vulnerability, and atmospheric fear shaping her sections.

  • Leon S. Kennedy brings high-energy, action-oriented gameplay drawing on his roots from Resident Evil 4 — complete with intense combat and adrenaline-pumping sequences that contrast with Grace’s horror-focused moments.

The developers see this alternating rhythm — from harrowing fear to explosive action — as a way to create a unique pacing dynamic that enhances both emotional tension and gameplay variety.

Leon’s Return & Unique Flavor

Leon’s inclusion marks his first return to Raccoon City since Resident Evil 2, now older and grittier but still iconic. The team also revealed a fun detail for fans: Leon will be driving a custom Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, created in collaboration with Porsche to fit the world of Requiem.

Release Info

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC — giving fans plenty to look forward to with its bold blend of horror and action.
